amba Taipei Songshan Unveils a Design-led Urban Oasis Overlooking the Taipei 101 Tower in Eastern Taipei
July 1, 2016, Taipei – amba Taipei Songshan is unveiled today, July 1, 2016, in eastern Taipei, just five minutes’ drive from the iconic Taipei 101 tower. It is the third hotel for Taiwan’s homegrown new-generation hotel brand, following amba Taipei Ximending (opened 2012) and amba Taipei Zhongshan (opened 2015).
“We are very excited to bring Taiwan’s homegrown fun amba experience to eastern Taipei. amba Taipei Songshan marks an exciting evolution for our brand. We’ve enhanced the guest experience with a chic urban vibe and additional comforts, while keeping amba’s quirky, playful style and focus on ‘Connectivity, Conservation and Creativity’. We are thrilled to offer an exciting and cost-effective alternative to the more established Xinyi district hotels nearby. Our aim is to introduce guests to explore authentic cultural experiences in fascinating Songshan neighborhood, by creating guided walking and street food tours exclusively designed for amba guests,” says Hubert Lee, President of Ambassador Hotels & Restaurants.
Dazzling Design and Unbeatable Views
Making a dazzling design statement, amba Taipei Songshan welcomes savvy globetrotters into a vibrant urban oasis that blends modernity with authentic Taiwanese flavor. Crowning the top five floors of a new 21-story tower, amba Taipei Songshan’s distinctive façade mixes glass and steel with eye-catching pop-out sections. By night, color-changing lighting marks out Taiwan’s hottest new hotel landmark.
Panoramic views of the Taipei skyline are a spectacular feature throughout the new amba Taipei Songshan. Guests pass through a dramatic bamboo installation at the ground-floor entrance before being whisked up to the amba Lobby on Level 17, where a jaw-dropping welcome awaits. Stepping into the soaring space, travelers are greeted by dramatic vistas of Taipei and the mountains through seven-meter-high, floor-to-ceiling windows.
The Lobby is a fun social space where guests are welcome to hang out, meet, collaborate and chill, offset by unobstructed views of Taipei 101 (making it a popular spot for skyline selfies, too!). Road warriors and guests wishing to stay connected with friends and family will enjoy a comfortable workspace with quirky lounge chairs, super-fast WiFi and convenient power point access. Adjoining the Lobby is SPIN, a communal games room featuring a custom-made ping pong table, a foosball table and relaxation areas.
Authentic Taiwanese craftsmanship is showcased throughout amba’s streamlined design. Casting a magical glow is a signature collection of 21 giant eco-bamboo lanterns standing up to three meters high. Each lantern was custom crafted for the hotel by a team of artisans in central Taiwan from eco bamboo. The lights feature 17 different hand-woven designs that dapple the space with unique patterns. Taking six artists two weeks to create the largest lantern, several sections also had to be woven onsite during the complex installation process.
Playful original artworks and graphic designs by local artists enliven the public spaces and guestrooms throughout the hotel. Instilling smiles and good vibes, a colorful collection of posters and inspiring quotes backdrop the check-in desks. Every guest doorway features a different artwork inspired by significant events in the year of the corresponding room number, making a walk along the corridors an entertaining encounter with time travel.
Majority of amba’s 189 comfortable guestrooms offer panoramic vistas of Taipei 101 and the city skyline, or the beautiful Keelung River and mountains. Room categories include Smart (27 sqm), Medium (30-31 sqm), Corner (32-41 sqm), Large (37 sqm), Extra Large (40 sqm), Loft (48 sqm) and Studio (107 sqm) rooms. There are also connecting rooms for families and groups of friends. The special Corner Extra Large 101 View Rooms feature glass walls on two sides encompassing river, city and Taipei 101 views, plus a window-front bathtub.
A dream for tech-savvy travelers, amba’s signature ‘essentials’ enable guests to work smart and recharge comfortably. Every guestroom offers complimentary Smart WiFi at super high-speed data transfer rates, an individual access point for optimal WiFi experience, and a 48-inch Sony BRAVIA Full HD TV with built-in YouTube, Instagram, Netflix and other entertainment connections. Guests can enjoy their favorite music in their room through excellent Wireless Bluetooth® speakers, custom crafted in Taiwan from natural wood.
Integrating form, function and fun with a designer twist, amba’s guestrooms feature a soothing natural color palette accentuated by pop art, colorful chairs and industrial-style ceiling lamps made from silicon-rubber. Supporting a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, environmentally friendly materials include eco-wood flooring in the guestrooms, and phthalate-free and recycled woven vinyl carpet in the corridors. Guests can help themselves to coffee from the Nespresso coffee maker and fresh Taiwanese tea. A large circular table can be used for working or relaxed dining.
Guest bathrooms offer a separate shower room fitted with a dual Ecostat Comfort rain shower and massage showerheads, plus a ‘bathtub with a view’ in the larger rooms. Calming ginger-scented bath products are exclusively provided by socially responsible, all-natural Taiwanese brand Two Acres, while the trendy amba flip flops can be taken home and reused.
Part of amba’s ‘thoughtful extras’, a handy self-service laundry room plus a wide array of ‘amenities to borrow or rent’ are available. These include free weights, yoga mats, board games, an Xbox and a balance ball chair. All guests can enjoy around-the-clock access to the fitness room on Level 18, equipped with cardio machines, a punching bag, yoga balls and a balance board.
Destination Dining and Spectacular Events
amba’s Que restaurant on Level 17 is a fashionable place to dine and socialize for travelers and residents in downtown Taipei. Seating 150 diners, the modern chophouse serves premium wood-fired meats and seafood – all responsibly sourced and hormone free – grilled over native fruit-tree woods and accompanied by unlimited homemade salads and healthy sides. At the heart of the restaurant is an open kitchen where diners can watch the chefs in action. A seven-meter-high atrium fills the dining room with natural light, while terrazzo floors and an eclectic collection of retro chairs add to the casually chic vibe.
amba is an ideal location for creative meetings, joyful weddings and special events, offering up to 928 square meters (9,988 square feet) of inspiring hotel space. Que restaurant with beautiful river views can be transformed into a refreshing event destination seating up to 240 for cocktails or 200 for a chef-prepared banquet. Que 1 private room features a loft kitchen and panoramic vistas of Keelung River through 90-degree curved windows, and can cater up to 36 banquet guests or 50 meeting guests. The spectacular seven-meter-high Que atrium seats up to 90 guests.
SPIN inspires teams to put a new spin on possibilities. Overlooking Taipei 101, this venue features a playful design with a ping pong meeting table, and can accommodate up to 18 guests.
The stylish 107 sqm Studio on Level 17 is perfect for spectacular stays as well as private celebrations. Appealing to creative travelers looking to impress and be inspired, it's a dream destination for parties or romantic getaways. High ceilings and large picture windows on two sides makes it a coveted venue for New Year’s Eve, yielding unbeatable views of the fireworks show at Taipei 101.
Guests hosting presentations and roundtable meetings will find this a fabulous, multi-functional option with spacious separate sleeping and living quarters, plus audio-visual facilities and a 10-person table for meetings or social dinners. In addition to the master bedroom and bathroom with an oversized circular tub, a 55-inch Sony Full HD TV and a personal bar add to the cool vibe.
